About the Central States Youth Dairy Goat Circuit

The Central States Youth Dairy Goat Circuit was created in response to a growing need for more sanctioned youth-focused opportunities in our region. Organizers recognized that many youth exhibitors travel across state lines to compete and wanted to create a program that encourages participation without limiting youth to a single state or area.

Rather than focusing on one location, the circuit brings together multiple established shows across the Central States, allowing youth to accumulate points throughout the year while participating in events they are already attending.

The goal is simple:

  • Support and promote youth exhibitors

  • Encourage skill development beyond the show ring

  • Create meaningful, high-quality opportunities for youth involvement

A Three-Part Youth Series

The Central States Youth Dairy Goat Circuit is designed as a three-part series, with multiple opportunities offered throughout the year:

1. Showmanship

Showmanship is the foundation of the circuit and the first component to be fully implemented.

  • Youth may attend as many participating shows as they choose

  • There are no qualifying minimums

  • Points are accumulated across the season

  • Awards will be given by age division

Diamonds in the Rock will count toward showmanship points as part of the circuit.

2. Knowledge Competitions (coming throughout the year)

Knowledge events are designed to test and build understanding of dairy goat management, evaluation, and industry knowledge. These may include:

  • Written tests

  • Quiz bowl–style competitions

  • Other educational formats

The circuit hopes to host three to five knowledge events throughout the year. Some are already planned, with additional details to be announced as dates and formats are finalized.

3. Judging Competitions (coming throughout the year)

Judging competitions will follow a 4-H and FFA–style format, giving youth the opportunity to develop livestock evaluation and oral reasons skills.

  • At least one judging event is planned, with additional events being explored

  • More details will be shared as logistics are finalized

Important Notes for Exhibitors

  • The Central States Youth Dairy Goat Circuit does not host or run individual shows

  • Each participating show operates under its own rules and sanctions

  • Some shows may have restrictions (such as county fair or 4-H/FFA requirements)

  • Exhibitors are encouraged to review individual show rules to confirm eligibility
